Desalination

Among the smallest and lightest in its class

By forcing seawater through a permeable membrane at 800 psi (approximately 5.5 atm)—a pressure roughly four times that of a fire truck’s water jet—the system not only removes salt but also filters out heavy metals and contaminants, as well as muddy water.

SCROLL

This seawater desalination unit not only removes salt but also filters water contaminated with heavy metals, as well as muddy water. It ranks among the smallest of its kind in the world; the smallest model, the E-60, weighs just 60 kg. Its compact, portable design allows it to be mounted on small trucks or boats and used in a wide range of settings, from civil engineering sites to accommodation facilities.

Mechanism

Seawater pumped from the source passes through a pre-treatment filter to remove coarse debris before being pressurized and sent to a reverse osmosis membrane. Under normal conditions, seawater entering the membrane would simply flow straight through and be discharged; however, by closing the discharge valve and applying pressure, the water is prevented from exiting, forcing only the water molecules to permeate through to the inner side of the membrane.

Volume of purified water

While the volume of purified water produced varies depending on water temperature, water quality, and salinity, the standard recovery rate is 30% purified water and 70% discharge for seawater, and 40% purified water and 60% discharge for fresh water. In terms of output, the E-60 model produces 60 liters per hour from seawater and 120 liters from fresh water, while the E-250 model produces 250 liters per hour from seawater and 500 liters from fresh water.

Compact

The E-60 weighs just 60 kg. As one of the world’s smallest desalination units, it requires minimal installation space and can be easily transported in small trucks or on boats.

Low Cost

Production costs are around 5 cents per liter—roughly half the cost of other desalination systems.

High Performance

Water quality meets the standards set by Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare under the Water Supply Act. It removes 99.2–99.8% of chloride ions (salt), producing drinking water with 0.0% salinity.

Disaster Preparedness

Never worry about a lack of drinking water in an emergency. It can convert seawater, river or pond water, or even household water supplies into safe drinking water during disasters.

30% Lower Running Costs

Minimal frost accumulation allows for long periods of continuous operation. Running costs—including labor and electricity for short-term production—are reduced by over 30%.

Proven Track Record Overseas

This desalination unit is currently used in over 12 countries, including Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Peru, and Chile.

Applications

“Turn the ocean right in front of you into a water source without any construction work”—— that is the value of this compact seawater desalination unit.

Construction

This compact unit is used at construction sites where securing purified water is difficult, such as harbor projects or remote mountainous areas. Highly valued by civil engineering professionals, it can utilize not only seawater but also nearby sources like rivers or ponds.

Marine Vessels

Previously, crews had to purchase bottled water before departure and stock freshwater tanks with 400–600 liters. Installing this unit allows the crew to focus on their work without worrying about running out of drinking water, household water, or shower water on board.
